GigaDevice Launches the New GD32E501 Series, Leading the Development of Arm® Cortex®-M33 Based MCUs for Optical Modules Market
2020-10-27
GigaDevice's new GD32E501 series MCU introduces the latest Arm® Cortex®-M33 architecture core into the field of medium and high-speed optical communications, fulfilling the needs of the optical module industry.
On 27th October 2020, GigaDevice officially released a new series of Arm® Cortex®-M33 based MCU’s, the GD32E501 high-performance microcontrollers. The new products continue to pave their way in the field of photoelectric transmission. This strengthens the existing GD32E232 series of products and provides a complete MCU portfolio for the optical module market. The new product series matches the various transmission rates and application scenarios of optical networks; comprehensively covers the data processing and monitoring needs of various applications such as fiber optic routers, switches, 5G transmission, data centers and cloud servers. The GD32E501 series of MCUs are available in the 4x4mm BGA64 and QFN32 packages with 6 product models. The series is currently sampling and will be available in mass production this November.

More new features and other product information
The GD32E501 series of MCUs operates from a 1.8V to 3.6V power supply and supports a temperature range of -40 °C to + 105 °C. The built-in 512KB dual bank flash memory can support the use of Read While Write (RWW) functions to allow the system to still execute code during an over the air (OTA) update. Furthermore, it provides a memory protection unit (MPU), CLA unit, I2C bootloader and the newly added MDIO interface which can be used for Ethernet PHY management. In general, the number of serial interfaces has doubled when compared to the entry-level products found on the GD32E232 series. These additional resources and features help to support the growing demand in the 5G field and the continuous growing optical communication markets.
On September 22nd GigaDevice participated at the China International Optoelectronic Exhibition (CIOE) and introduced the new GD32E501 series, together with its optoelectronic application solutions to the attendees.
